A mother in Mississippi was left seething after her son’s teacher reportedly ‘humiliated’ him by awarding a ‘zero award’ in the classroom. Patricia Buckley told WAPT, a local ABC affiliate, “I think it was so horrible for him to get this award.”
In Leake County, Bradley, 14, got a demoralizing certificate from his teacher that stated, “The ‘zero’ Award. It’s impossible to be me. Don’t try. You’ll never find a solution.” When the distressed mother picked Bradley up from school, she found that the award certificate had been “balled up like he was ashamed.”
According to the student, “I was feeling sad, and I didn’t really want to give to her,” according to a local news report.
When Patricia inquired about it, his devastated kid said that he had been humiliated in front of his whole class. According to reports, his teacher is just in their first year of teaching. Patricia contacted the school’s administrative office to learn more about the award and the circumstances surrounding its distribution. “I think it was so horrible for him to get this award. I’m going to do what I can do for this to never happen again. Not just to Bradley, but any child,” Patricia said.
After that, she repeatedly contacted the superintendent of the Leake County Schools, but no one responded. “I don’t know [why they did it]. That’s why I called the superintendent’s office to find out,” Patricia said. There are conflicting feelings about whether or not Bradley should return to school after the event.
