Man Who Spent 21 Years Behind Bars Reunites With Teacher Who Helped Him Through

When Michael Lacey was released from prison after serving 21 years, he knew who he had to visit to thank: his GED teacher, Ms. Rice.

While at a photography gig, Lacey ran into her roommate. The two connected and thought it would be a good idea to plan a surprise for their mutual friend.

So, Lacey got her address, filmed the visit and uploaded it to TikTok.

The video went viral, with 6.5 million views and 1.5 million likes. People were touched by the studentโ€™s relationship with his teacher.

Even though he was nervous about the visitโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ Ms. Riceโ€™s reaction ended up being just perfect.

She recognized her student right away and exclaimed โ€œLacey!?โ€ as soon as she opened the door, obviously thrilled her former student had completed his time in prison and had his basic freedoms back.

Lacey said Ms. Rice was his favorite teacher during his 21 years in prison and noted that he has seen her help more than 300 inmates receive their GEDs.

During his time as a student, Lacey said Ms. Rice never judged any of the inmates she taught.

Thrilled to see her former student, Ms. Rice invited Lacey in to catch up.

Thanks to Ms. Riceโ€™s nonjudgmental attitude, willingness to help and positive influence, she ended up being a huge influence on those she helped.

We hope these two stay in touch!
