Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is likely to approve a law allowing parents a vote in whether their children are exposed to graphic content in school.
The law was passed by the House of Delegates on Monday, and it is now on its way to Youngkin’s desk for approval.
The Senate has already approved the measure.
If a previously assigned item is deemed improper, the law mandates schools to present pupils with an alternate assignment.
โWhat SB 656 does, It sets up an adversarial relationship between teachers and or between the school and parents and guardians, and weโd much rather have a collaborative, cooperative consultative relationship between teachers and students,โ said Robert Rigby, co-president of FCPS Pride.
The Virginia Department of Education will adopt regulations to notify parents if the bill is signed into law.
Youngkin has backed a number of bills that give parents more control over what their children are taught in public schools.
