On Thursday, July 5, the Latvian government authorized revisions to numerous Cab. Min. standards that would raise the lowest monthly salary for teachers by 8.4% – from EUR 830 to EUR 900 – beginning in the 2022/2023 school year.
From September 1, 2022, teachers’ earnings will rise as a result of these changes to the law.
The lowest monthly salary for college directors and vice-directors, heads of general and hobby education facilities, vocational education program heads at colleges, and other education employees is to be enhanced, according to the amendments.
Additional amendments also include an 11.2 percent increase in pre-school teachers’ wages, from EUR 872 to EUR 970, effective Sept. 1, 2022.
Education and Science officials said that the adjustments will let teachers earn more money without affecting their workloads.
The government emphasized that since most teachers have a light workload, a raise in the lowest rate would not give a noticeable pay boost for all instructors. The ideal student-to-teacher ratio can only be achieved by ensuring a variety of requirements for optimizing the school network.
In addition, it is hoped that a solidarity principle would be established. As a consequence of the estimate, private education institutions will get compensation up to the amount specified in the budget legislation.
As previously reported, the Latvian Teachers’ Trade Union intends to call an indefinite strike for teachers in September.
