A Teacher From Elk Grove Will Represent California In The Mrs. America Pageant

Next month in Las Vegas, California will be represented by a teacher from the Elk Grove School District in the Mrs. America pageant.

She works at Robert J. Fite Elementary School, where she teaches second-grade students. Last month, she was named Mrs. California America after winning a competition in Bakersfield, beating out a field of 19 other hopefuls. It was Johnson’s fourth time competing before she won the crown.

“I thought, ‘wait, OK, there’s a pageant for married women? I’m in,’” she said.

Miss Black Sacramento, 1985, was Johnson’s first pageant crown.

At the beginning of her competitive career in 2010, Johnson’s focus was on raising awareness of thyroid cancer. She’s a survivor herself, and her mother was subsequently afflicted with breast cancer. Part of her new mission is to help raise money and awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
