There was a Mega Millions jackpot winner, but it wasn’t purchased in Virginia. Everyone’s enthusiasm did, however, help Virginia.
During the 29 draws of the jackpot run that started in April and finished with the drawing that took place on Friday night, the state of Virginia made an estimated profit of $30.2 million from the sale of Mega Millions tickets.
By law, every dollar of profit has to go to the state’s public education system.
In the drawing that took place on Friday evening, more than 405,000 of the Mega Millions tickets that were purchased in Virginia were selected as winners. There were four tickets that had a match for four of the first five numbers as well as the Mega Ball number. The standard reward for that is $10,000; however, one of those players put an additional dollar on the megaplier, which brought the total prize up to $20,000.
The online purchase of the winning ticket was worth $20,000 in prize money. More than 64,000 winning Mega Millions tickets were bought at valottery.com, out of a total of 405,000 winning tickets bought in Virginia for Friday night’s drawing.
The Mega Millions jackpot was won by the numbers 13, 36, 45, 57, 67, and 14. The drawing was held on Friday.
The draws for Mega Millions take place every Tuesday and Friday night at eleven o’clock p.m. The chances of winning the jackpot in the Virginia Lottery are one in 302,575,350, according to the lottery’s website.
