Teachers at Des Moines Public Schools who had previously intended to retire but are now willing to work for an additional year are eligible for a bonus of $50,000 if they do so.
In order to be eligible, teachers who are retiring must be at least 60 years old and have been employed for a total of at least 15 years prior to their retirement. In addition, teachers in the Des Moines School District will have the opportunity to participate in a group health insurance plan until the age of 65 if they want to do so.
According to DMPS, there have been 59 teachers who have shown an interest in postponing their retirement for another year. According to a recent announcement, the Des Moines schools are trying to fill 95 teaching openings across 60 different facilities.
