Sissy Hoffman, who is 70 years old and a participant in the Inspiritus First Families Mentorship program, has spent the last nine months assisting an Afghan refugee family in adjusting to life in the United States.
The curriculum comprises teaching English, exposing them to American habits and demands, and offering guidance on how to execute day-to-day chores like composing an email message.
Hoffman was born and raised in Savannah and served as a teacher for a total of forty years until retiring in 2018.
Previously, she was a teacher in the state of California, where she worked with students in special education and immigrants.
Since she retired, Hoffman has been working with afghan families, and she considers it to be the most rewarding of her jobs.
