Harry Styles made sure that his Love on Tour lived true to its name when he halted his most recent show to look for the teacher he had when he was just a child. I The show took place on June 15th, 2022, at Manchester’s Emirates Old Trafford, a venue with a capacity of 26,000 people.
His “first-ever school teacher” was nowhere to be seen, so he turned to the audience for assistance. “I’m going to ask a favor from you because I’d like to try and find someone in the audience. So, we’re going to get really quiet and I’m going to see if I can locate this person, if you don’t mind helping me.” “My first-ever school teacher is here tonight. Her name’s Mrs. Vernon and I believe she’s in the crowd,” he continued as everyone erupted in cheers with plenty of “aws” echoing around the venue. With a single exclamation, “There she is!” Styles pointed to his former elementary school teacher.
“Mrs. Vernon! How are you? I hear you’re retiring… I’d just like to thank you for everything in those formative years. Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that you’re here tonight,” he said.
Styles’ former teacher was able to be found by BBC Radio 2 for the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show and revealed her memories of teaching Styles before he became famous.
“I taught him when he was four and five and he was adorable,” Mrs. Vernon said. “He was a little bit of a monkey, cheeky, and he had lots of friends, so a lot of his personality that you see now was quite evident from an early age.” She added, “Later on in the Key Stage 2 he was in lots of performances, so it was really in those years that we saw how talented he was with his music … the best performance that I remember was when he was Elvis in the performance of Joseph that we did.”
